In a bid to wage war against dowry, the Haryana government has issued a directive asking all its male employees to give a record of the gifts that they receive from their in-laws at the time of marriage. The directive requires the government employees to submit an undertaking, stating the gifts that they receive from their in-laws, whether in cash or kind, at the time of marriage. This is to ensure that when the officials enter into a marital alliance, they strictly comply with the anti-dowry law, in word and in spirit.
The employee would be required to submit full details of the amount of money or the articles of property that they receive from their in-laws at the time of getting married. The undertaking that would be required by the government, would be as per the method prescribed under the rule 18(2) of Haryana Civil Services (Government Employees Conduct) Rules, 2016.
